Darling Downs paddocks full of new foals
SPRING is definitely in the air at horse studs on the Darling Downs with paddocks full of mares and their foals.
At Cambooya's Eureka Stud, close to 80 foals came into the world in the past 10 weeks.
Scott McAlpine, along with his wife Grania and three sons Harry, Angus and Charlie, runs 300 horses at the 1000-acre property just outside Cambooya.
The first foal for the year was born on August 1 and another 12 are still to come.
"We've done this all our lives," Mr McAlpine said.
"The Darling Downs is great country with its rich elements to rear the horses to be sound and tough."
The mares can't rest easy too soon though with the majority back in foal already roughly three weeks after giving birth.
