DANE Nielsen is looking for a big season to secure his future in the NRL.

The Storm's Queensland State of Origin centre is off-contract at the end of this season and admitted he wasn't sure of the future.

"It's my fifth year with the club," he said.

"I'm not too sure what's going to happen, but if I can play some good football things can happen from there.

"I'd like to stay here but a lot of things can happen.

"I'll wait and see what happens in the year ahead."

Nielsen said he had received some interest from other clubs at the back end of last season, but wasn't interested in pursuing options.

"I've just got to play good football and worry about week by week with the Storm.

"If I play good football I've got no worries.

"I'd love to stay with the Storm, I've got a lot of good mates down here."

Nielsen was a surprise Origin selection by Queensland coach Mal Meninga following injuries last season and played well in two games, and said he'd love to back up again.

"I'd like to do it again, it was a great opportunity for me," he said.

"If it doesn't happen again, so be it, but at the same time it's one of the things you'd like to do.

"I've just got to play well, and whatever comes from that, so be it."

Nielsen played in the Storm's trial win over the Broncos in Hobart and said he was injury-free going into the season.

"I had a back problem for three or four weeks just after Christmas, but I've recovered from that," he said.

"It's looking good now, hopefully I can stay like that."

The Storm has regularly been one of the top contenders, and Nielsen admitted it was hard to maintain the standard.

"All the teams have bought well in the off-season, and you're always going to get a few injuries," he said.
