Dams to test best anglers in Rapala Barra Tour
FISHING: There will be some great barramundi caught this weekend, with elite anglers in the region for the Rapala Barra Tour.
Three rounds will be held across next week, beginning this Saturday.
ABT tournament director Chris Byrnes said the tournament was continuing to grow.
"For the last couple of years, we've been focusing on the northern dams, which are Teemburra, Kinchant and Peter Faust," he said.
"The tournament is all catch-and-release, lure and fly fishing only."
Round one will be held at Teemburra Dam, on Saturday, from 3-10pm. It will run at the same time on Sunday.
The competition's "famous" night championship will be held on Tuesday night, also at Teemburra.
"That's a real test of strength, endurance and focus," Byrnes said.
Beginning at 4pm on Tuesday, round two continues until 8am on Wednesday.
The final, and likely pivotal round, will be at Peter Faust Dam, near Proserpine, on November 27-28.
Byrnes said there was a difference between recreational and tournament fishing.
"You really have to work together as a team, and tournament anglers work out a plan before they hit the water," he said.
Round one: Teemburra Dam, Saturday and Sunday from 3-10pm.
Round two night championship: Teemburra Dam, Tuesday 4pm to Wednesday 8am.
Round three: Peter Faust Dam November 27 and November 28 from 3-10pm.
