THE North Coast branch achieved solid performance results at the NSW Interbranch Surf Life Saving Championships at The Lakes on the Central Coast at the weekend.
Each year, 11 of the regional branches within Surf Life Saving NSW send a representative team to the Interbranch Championships, ensuring one of the highest standards of competition during the surf sports season.
While North Coast will always struggle to match it with the big teams from the Sydney, Sydney Northern Beaches and Central Coast branches in the final pointscore due to smaller numbers in the senior events, the local juniors have again shown they’re as good as any in NSW.
One of those juniors who performed exceptionally well over the weekend was Sawtell’s Lauren Dam.
The talented surf lifesaver was a standout performer for the branch, with a second in both the under-14 flags and sprint.
“I went pretty good, better than I expected,” Dam said.
“I’ve been doing lots of work with club trainer Jim McCollogh. Putting all the tips and instructions together has allowed me to get up a lot quicker in the flags and has started to pay off. I tried my hardest this weekend and I’m really happy.”
Lauren has high hopes for the rest of the season and is banking on being competitive in both the beach and water events.
