State will subsidise Bowraville dam

IT'S one of the biggest decisions Nambucca Shire will face in the near future: whether or not to go ahead with its $53 million (2012 projection) dam project outside Bowraville.

The news received last week that the State Government is prepared to subsidise the project to the level of 31 per cent is certainly a positive.

However Cr Mike Moran remains unconvinced.

“I've seen all sorts of reports and we still don't know the final cost,” Cr Moran said.

“I think it is beyond us.”

On Thursday night the councillors voted to thank the New South Wales Minister For Water, Phillip Costa, for the commitment.

Cr Brian Finlayson commented '31 per cent was a curious number'.

Cr Hoban said it was '31 per cent more than had been anticipated'.

Thanks to the subsidy the council will now progress the financial modelling of the scheme with higher certainty.
