Daley missed Blues’ match-winning moment

NEW South Wales coach Laurie Daley was in the ANZ Stadium tunnel when centre Michael Jennings scored the try that sunk Queensland 18-14 but knew by the roar he could hear that something had happened.

Daley had planned for it all week but he missed the big play that won the game.

He emerged from the tunnel just in time to catch a replay on the big screen of Jennings grounding the ball and the wild scenes that followed, including a ridiculous try celebration by prop Aaron Woods, which looked hilarious as he screamed in to congratulate his teammates and missed them all.

With NSW working off its try line with 90 seconds remaining and down 14-12 after a Darius Boyd try in the 75th minute, Daley left his seat in the ANZ stand and headed down to the ground probably thinking Queensland had denied him yet again.

"I left the coach's box and I was walking down with (Blues staffer) Gavin Wood. I thought I'll drop my pad into the booth and as I walked out the door I heard this roar. I thought 'oh that's pretty good, I don't know what it was' and then it was more than a roar and I realised yeah, it was a try," Daley said.

"I got there just as you see it on the screen as you walk through the tunnel, as 'Jenko' put it down."

As teammates dived on top of Jennings and high-fived, Woods leapt in the air and flew over the top of all of them before crashing unceremoniously in the ANZ Stadium turf.
