Cutters star: Mackay 'as country as I've gotten'
MANY of his Mackay Cutters teammates began their careers at a grassroots level playing in small country towns, but not halfback Sam Cook.
Ahead of tonight's Get in the Game Country Week clash with Wynnum Manly in Cloncurry, Auckland-born Cook said he had never experienced playing footy on such a small stage.
"Mackay is as country as I've got,” the 25 year old said.
"Rockhampton was a first for me last week (as well).”
Cloncurry is about 780km west of Mackay, with a population of around 3000.
Cook was keen to "do a job” on the Seagulls before embracing the Cloncurry community.
"Hopefully we can do a job on Wynnum (tonight) and then have some fun with the local kids on Sunday morning,” he said.
Cook hoped he and five-eight Lloyd White could continue the fine form they showed against the Capras last weekend.
"We put on some good shape and scored a couple of good tries together,” Cook said.
