Reality TV contestants found love on Curtis Island ferry
A CHANCE meeting in Gladstone helped to spark romance between Restaurant Revolution contestants Justine Yeong and John McIntosh.
The couple, along with Justine's mum Maggie, are currently running a pop-up restaurant in Brisbane for the new reality cooking show.
The young couple met on the ferry to Curtis Island, where John, a former machinery operator, and Justine, a civil engineer, both worked.
"We caught the ferry across every day and the ride was 30 minutes.
"I didn't have any magazines (to read) so I went up and stole some magazines from him because they were fitness magazines," Ms Yeong told The Observer.
"Everyone else had car magazine and I wasn't really interested in those. We just got talking.
"He was new and I was there for about three or four months prior to him arriving.
"We became really good friends because John's a very outdoorsy kind of guy.
"We went to MMA classes together, we went down to Agnes Waters and 1770 and went surfing there and did a lot of hikes together. From there our relationship just blossomed."
The couple took a break from the mining industry to travel around Central and South America, where they fell in love with coastal Mexican cuisine.
They returned to Brisbane where they started their own taco truck, attracting the attention of Restaurant Revolution's producers.
Tonight's episode of the show will feature the grand opening of their restaurant Puerto, where the profits they receive from diners will contribute towards their overall ranking.
