Riot police called to control angry soccer fans

REFEREE Bjorn Kuipers twice had to hold up play in the Group H Euro 2016 qualifier between Italy and Croatia after flares were thrown on to the pitch (pictured) and riot police moved in to control sections of the crowd.

The game, at the San Siro in Milan, finished 1-1, with the Croats now leading on goal difference from Italy in Group H.

Israel continued its great start to qualifying with a 3-0 win over Bosnia in Group B.

It was the Israelis' third win in three games and they lead the group from Wales, who remained unbeaten with a 0-0 draw against Belgium in Brussels.

In other Euro qualifiers, Netherlands thrashed Latvia 6-0 and Czech Republic beat Iceland 2-1 to lead Group A, with the Dutch now in third spot.

Turkey beat Kazakhstan 3-1, Cyprus thrashed Andorra 5-0, while Norway won 1-0 in Azerbaijan. Bulgaria and Malta drew 1-1.
