Criminal gang in rip-off raids

POLICE are again warning Coffs Coast residents about a gang of criminals who are raiding bank accounts.

Investigators say a man and two women, with European accents, are ripping off unsuspecting locals in a well-organised operation.

Police believe another man could also be involved.

They stand behind customers at supermarket checkout queues or at ATMs and watch as they enter their PIN numbers.

They then follow the person to their car and ask them for directions, often producing a map to appear genuine.

While the person is distracted, they steal their handbag or wallet containing their keycard and within minutes, they steal funds from their bank account.

The gang has been operating at Centro Toormina and Park Beach Plaza and they've also struck at other North Coast centres.

If you can help with the investigation, contact Coffs Harbour police on 6652 0299.
