Local woman faces drug charges

A WOMAN charged over a major drug bust at Nambucca Heads faced court yesterday.

Karina Greenwood, 45, of Nambucca Heads, is charged with knowingly taking part in the manufacture of a prohibited drug, cultivating a prohibited plant, possessing a prohibited drug, possessing a precursor and possessing a prescribed restricted substance.

Greenwood was one of two women arrested by detectives who raided a Bent Street home on April 30.

It was the culmination of a six-month investigation by Nambucca Heads and Kempsey police into the manufacture of prohibited drugs in our region.

Detectives said at the time the seizure was going to have a significant effect on the availability of amphetamines on the Mid North Coast.

They discovered more than 100 grams of cannabis leaf, a small amount of amphetamine and a small quantity of ice.

Police also seized numerous chemicals and other items which they allege had been used in the manufacture of prohibited drugs.

They further allege the items they found were consistent with a clandestine drug laboratory which would have been in operation at some stage.

The dangerous nature of the items which were uncovered required back-up from Nambucca Heads Fire Brigade crews and their colleagues from the Coffs Harbour Fire Station’s hazardous materials unit.
