QFES working to contain Capricorn Hwy blaze

UPDATE 2.40PM: A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has released a statement regarding the Capricorn Highway blaze. 

A QFES spokeperson said multiple crews are at the scene of a large grassfire burning near the intersection of the Capricorn Hwy and Leichardt Hwy at Westwood. 

"Crews are currently trying to contain the fire," the spokesperson said. 

"There is no threat to property.

"Westwood residents are advised to shut windows and doors. 

"Those who suffer from respiratory illnesses should keep medications close by. 

"Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

"If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call 000 immediately."

Further reports suggest some traffic is being guided through a roadblock on the Capricorn Hwy but motorists are advised to take alternate routes or delay travel.

It is believed water bombing is also about to begin. 

 

 

UPDATE 2.20PM: Reports indicate authorities are preparing to close the Capricorn Highway between Rockhampton and Duaringa due to a large bush fire at Gogango. 

UPDATE 1.45PM: The blaze at Gogango has jumped the Capricorn Highway and crews are requesting further backup. 

Reports indicate smoke is visible from Kabra. 

UPDATE 1.40PM: Queensland police are being called in to control traffic on the Capricorn Highway at Gogango while fire crews battle an out of control blaze on the side of the road.

BREAKING 1.30PM: MULTIPLE fire crews are responding to a grass fire on the Capricorn Highway at Gogango. 

Initial reports suggest the blaze is escalating into a large blaze and is close to jumping the highway. 

Crews are being called in from the earlier blaze at Alton Downs and water bombers are on standby.
