Cowboys finals faith not set in stone
RUGBY LEAGUE: With three teams tied for third place on the TRL ladder, the Warwick Cowboys will play a decider round this weekend.
The A-grade side will rely on its own victory tomorrow, as well as wins from Pittsworth and Wattles (over Valleys and Highfields) to secure third spot going into the finals' series.
Cowboys' coach Phil Economidis said the team was ready to earn its place.
"The final five composition is not set in stone until the last game for everyone,” he said
"Our place in the finals is assured but third spot is important because it gives you two bites at the cherry.
"If we have to win three consecutive games, then so be it: I know this team can beat them all on the day.”
The Cowboys will have home advantage tomorrow over Toowoomba side Brothers but Economidis isn't letting down his guard against the bottom-placed team.
"Last time we versed them, it was an arm wrestle until half time: It was in the early days and the boys have grown since,” he said.
Two injured Cowboys' players will sit out tomorrow's game - lock Joe Fuimaono and forward Jarred Bradfield.
"It's a bit of reshuffling of the team but I have full faith in the blokes replacing them,” Economidis said.
Darren Pettiford will return to the field from injuries, the front rower is well rested and ready for the finals' series.
"He was resting an injury for the finals but will be coming back early to get a good run under his belt,” the coach said.
The game against Brothers tomorrow will be a prep match for the A-grade team.
"This is a good test for the finals, to help the boys get the game right,” Economidis said.
"We will be focusing on fine- tuning the little things, maintaining our defence and setting up strong plays.
"The boys know what's expected of them and there is desire coming from the group.”
A-grade starts 2.30pm tomorrow at Fr Ranger Oval.
