Council budget forecast for a deficit
THE 2013-14 budget adopted by Coffs Harbour City Council will be running at a deficit.
The budget voted on at last night's council meeting forecasts a deficit of $326,307 at the beginning of the financial year.
Council staff are endeavouring to reduce this to a balanced result by the end of the budget period.
The original staff recommendation put before the Councillors had suggested adopting a budget with a deficit of $426,307.
However, an amendment was tabled on Thursday night proposing the removal of $100,000 which had been earmarked to pay for the costs of staging an NRL trial match and an 'A' League soccer game.
The amendment won the support of Crs Sally Townley, Rod Degens, Mark Sultana, John Arkan and Nan Cowling while Crs Keith Rhoades, Bob Palmer, Garry Innes and Mayor Denise Knight.
