Cosmetics sold in Australia tested on animals: Choice

MAJOR cosmetics sold in Australia are being tested on animals in China, contrary to claims made by the beauty product companies, consumer advocate Choice has alleged.

The advocacy group said its staff had investigated claims made on labels and websites of major cosmetic companies including Lancome, Dior and MAC.

In a statement from Choice, researcher Zoya Sheftalovich said Lancome, Dior and MAC claimed their products weren't testing products on animals, when the opposite was happening.

It said in order to enter the massive Chinese market, some companies had gone back on their anti-animal testing policies.

Ms Sheftalovich said Choice was referring the matter to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for investigation.
