Corporate greed cutting away at the roots of business

FOR me, the entire $1 per litre of milk saga is a prime example of feral capitalism gone horribly wrong.

To pay any primary producer less than the cost of normal manufacture is to cut away at the very roots of business and community.

It has been the direct source of the loss of farms, broken families and many suicides.

All these negative consequences are excused by the 'customer is always right' and 'we are helping struggling families' mantras.

This is of course ludicrous and purely driven by corporate greed to increase market share.

We seem to have completely lost the factual truth that if we want to buy local Australian milk then we need to pay a fair price to the diary farmer who produces it.

The fact that there are now some 300 milk producers left down from about 800 before this travesty began is proof that $1 (or $1.10) a litre milk is totally unsustainable in any normal usage of the word. It is not a 'price war'; it is a war against reality.

Personally, every week, I intentionally budget to only buy Maleny Dairies milk, at the full price of $2.40 per litre (or at least what I believe is full price).

I would encourage everyone on the Sunshine Coast to pick local food businesses to 'adopt' and to only buy their products every week in the normal food shop.

It is perverse that this country spends billions of dollars every year to buy machines of war to 'protect' us, but spend so little to ensure we can produce our own food, in peace and war.
