Lund looks forward to CMC Rocks festival
TOWNSVILLE will have the rhythm when Alan Jackson and the CMC Rocks festival come to town.
The country music festival will return to Far North Queensland for the first time since its Sunshine State debut in 2010.
Alan Jackson, who delighted fans as the headline act at the fifth annual CMC Rocks the Hunter in 2011, tops the bill along with America's Sara Evans and Canada's Corb Lund.
Speaking to APN from his home in Edmonton, Alberta, Lund said he was looking forward to coming back to Australia after playing CMC Rocks North Queensland three years ago.
"I had a lot of fun running around in the jungle up there," he said.
"That's cowboy country up there."
Lund said he had a soft spot for Queensland after hearing his parents' stories of travelling around Australia for six months in the 1960s on the rodeo circuit.
"For a long time I thought I was maybe conceived there," he laughed.
Lund will be treating fans to his seventh studio album Cabin Fever, which was released in August last year.
He retreated to his cabin in the remote woods of the Rocky Mountains to write most of the songs on the album.
"At the time I was going through a dark period," he said.
"My relationship had ended and my uncle had passed away, so I was out there in seclusion."
That dark solitude can be heard throughout Cabin Fever.
"It's good," Lund said.
"I like dark. I'm comfortable with dark."
Cabin Fever was recorded at a friend's studio in Edmonton, rather than Tennessee where Lund had recorded his past few albums.
"We did it at home deliberately to try to get away from any kind of authority figure," he said.
"We drank beer; we started late; it was a party. We made a record as a by-product. It worked well for us."
That party vibe is sure to go down well in Townsville.
Also playing the festival are Australians Jasmine Rae and Morgan Evans.
More acts will be announced in the coming months.
CMC Rocks North Queensland plays Reid Park in Townsville on September 28.
Tickets go on sale on May 29 at 9am at www.cmcrocks.com.au.
