Coptic Soldier has it covered
A RAPPER with a keen ear for a melody, who has violins on his new single?
It's not something that loads of Aussie hip hop artists are into, which is just as well, because Coptic Soldier has it covered.
Debut EP Sound of Wings - a collaborative effort with Sydney soul singer Miriam Waks - has earnt some serious airplay on independent radio, and rightly so.
It's a bridge across genres, with thoughtful, heartfelt rhymes over brass and strings, and some gorgeous man-vocals.
The first single from the release, I Hate Sleep, features Brisbane indie-folk sweet hearts Charlie Mayfair lending their harmonies to the dub-style beat.
Deep bassline and syncopated guitar rhythm sets the foundations for a multi-layered melody.
Stand out track Liquid Company features a fat instrumental build with soaring saxophones and vocal harmonies, and big piano sounds.
