Convoy for kids is rolling
BACK in 2010 a committee formed to hold the first ever East Gippsland Convoy for Kids - now the convoy is back.
The next East Gippsland Convoy for Kids will be held on March 22, proudly presented by Gippsland Truck Centre and T&G Insurance Brokers.
In the first year the committee had hoped to raise $10,000 from convoy in Lakes Entrance, Victoria.
But organisers were blown away by the support of the community and local businesses when nearly $54,000 was raised for Camp Quality and Angel Flight.
One of the organisers, Jaclyn Fitzgerald, told Big Rigs Kennedy Trailers was currently holding the highest bid for the lead truck in this year's convoy.
This year money raised will go to Angel Flight and Camp Quality again, along with local charity Melon's Cottage.
The convoy departs Morwell at 7.30am from Centre Rd and Orbost at 9am from Nicholson St and meets at the Greater Lakes Airport, Colquhoun Rd, Lakes Entrance.
With some 280 trucks taking part in the last event, the hope is that this year will be even bigger.
Radio personality and presenter Trucking with Tim will compere the event.
There will be food, family activities, helicopter flights, vintage trucks and the trucks will parade on the day.
The committee has also organised for the RAAF Roulettes to carry out a fly over.
There will be a transport industry dinner at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club on the Saturday night from 6-11pm - including a live auction.
