Controversial try secures game

MACKSVILLE captain-coach Nev Donovan could be hot water with Group 2 officials after he questioned the refereeing abilities of whistleblower Kirk Taylor yesterday.

Donovan, pictured here laughing earlier in the game after scoring a try, had just seen his Sea Eagles side go down 28-23 to Woolgoolga with Taylor awarding a controversial penalty try to the Seahorses that secured the points.

"He's (Taylor) got no respect for the players. He just wants to be the centre of attention," stormed Donovan in the sheds after the game.

His comments will almost certainly be studied in depth by league administrators, keen to keep the lid on after-match sprays of their referees.

The result though, saw Woopi leap into top spot on the ladder after Dunghutti proved they are the real deal with a win over Orara Valley.

The Broncos got home 32-26 in a thriller while Sawtell found winning ways with a 74-6 thrashing of Macleay and Nambucca got a 98-0 drubbing at Port Macquarie.
