UPDATE: Eli Steele has taken out the Pa and Ma Memorial Surf Contest open men's final at Moffat's Beach.

Steele (15.5) finished off in strong fashion with two rides of 7.17 and 8.33 at the back end of the final. 

 

He has held off in-form youngster Thomas Prout (12.33) and multiple champion Dave Reardon-Smith (11.46) to win the 42nd annual classic. 

In the women's final, Japan's Hinako Kurokawa held off challenges from Coast surfers Sophie McCulloch and Laura Poncini to win by 2.16 points.

EARLIER: The open men's final of the Pa and Ma Bendall is set for a thrilling climax.

With less than 10 minutes to go in the open men's final, former junior Australian champion Eli Steele (12.5) leads five-time Pa and Ma winner Dave Reardon-Smith (10.5) by two points. 

Under-18s runner-up Thomas Prout sits in third with 9.96.

Harry Bryant is yet to register a score.

 

SURFING: The open men are in the water for the final of the Pa and Ma Bendall Memorial at Moffat's Beach, with Eli Steele currently on top on 10.56.

Thomas Prout and Dave Reardon-Smith are jostling for second position, while Harry Bryant is yet to register a score.
