Company steps up to national level
FROM humble origins, a Mackay company has expanded to hold its own at a national level.
National Pump Services, formerly Campbell Mining Services, this week launched its new brand, National Pump and Energy, after acquiring and merging with West Australian pumping and power generation company Resource Equipment Ltd (REL).
Mackay branch manager Michael Mifsud said it was an exciting step for the company because it meant it could compete nationally.
"We saw confidence in the market... there's still a need for our services, which is also promising," Mr Mifsud said.
After opening in Mackay 12 years ago as Campbell Mining Services, the company branched out to the state level.
Mr Mifsud said the primary focus was pumping and dewatering services.
While the company initially started just offering services within the mining sector, over the 12 years it had extended its reach into construction, oil and gas and the government sectors, he said.
Through acquiring REL, National Pump and Energy has added to the depth and expertise of an already established business.
"We really are a one-stop-shop for full turnkey solutions for water management and power and air as well," Mr Mifsud said.
The decision to expand also allowed the company to offset Mackay's tough economic climate due to the mining downturn, he said.
"It's a tough market," Mr Mifsud said. "Without diversifying what we do, we've diversified our location."
Mr Mifsud had been with the company since 2007 and said this was an exciting step forward.
National Pump and Energy managing director Rod Hayes said the launch expanded the company's capabilities with a distribution network spanning all major projects and locations across Australia.
"We now have one of the largest specialist equipment fleets in Australia and extensive experience in water management and power generation stemming from our origins in Mackay many years ago," Mr Hayes said.
