Painter creates community collages

INJECTING some humanity into the largely financial debate about hospital funding is a challenge Solveig Larsen is tackling head on.

The Bellingen painter is well known for working in pastels, charcoal and mixed media but since late last year she has been consumed by photographic portraits.

Solveig is the artistic profile behind the Faces of Bellingen collages that keep appearing in the town.

“This is an extraordinarily rich and diverse community and I thought the Faces project might be a way that we can get the message to the bureaucrats that funding for our hospital is about much more than budgets and figures,” Ms Larsen said.

“Bellingen has a life force of its own and everyone here has a connection to the hospital that extends beyond dollars and cents.”

Faces of Bellingen collages can be found in windows across the town. Solveig is working on a major installation within the Bellingen Library.
