Comets prepare for tournament

WITH the Group 2 Sevens tournament only six weeks away, Coffs Harbour is getting down to work this week to defend the title.

It was nearly 12 months ago when the Comets hinted a successful season was ahead when it claimed the Sevens prize as part of the curtain raiser to the NRL trial match played in Coffs Harbour and coach Warren Gilkinson says that playing in that event is the first order of business for his team.

“Training starts on Tuesday and we’re getting ready for February 19,” Gilkinson said.

Training will be at the Comets’ home ground Advocate Park and will be running on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the pre-season.

When asked about new recruits that could help the club improve on the grand final loss to Port Macquarie in 2010, the coach remained coy not wanting to let the cat out of the bag.

“All is going well at the moment and we will announce some new recruits shortly but none of them have actually signed up yet,” he said.

“When they put pen to paper we’ll let everybody know then.”
