Come meet big Mal

MORE than 150 people are expected to take over the Hervey Bay Hotel and Resort tonight when rugby league legend Mal Meninga takes a seat at the bar.

The State of Origin record-breaker will visit the hotel from 3pm this afternoon for a relaxing beer with Fraser Coast rugby league fans.

"He's a nice bloke," Hervey Bay Hotel general manager Mark Demilio said.

"People can bring down their jerseys and bits and pieces," he said.

"He'll be more than happy to sign them."

Demilio encouraged mum and dad fans to bring the kids after school to meet the six-times winning Origin coach.

Meninga is set to sign a new contract with the Queensland Rugby League by the end of the month.

The former Bundaberg boy visits Hervey Bay regularly as a shareholder in the Hervey Bay Hotel.

"We try and get him up here once a year," Mr Demilio said.

"He loves coming up here."

Meninga will be at the Hervey Bay Hotel beer garden from 3pm-4pm and football fans are encouraged to bring their favourite memorabilia along for an autograph.

"He'll be walking around speaking to people," Demilio said.
