Cold snap: Frosty conditions to sweep Mackay district
WARMER than usual weather was felt across the region over the weekend, but come Tuesday residents can expect another cold snap.
Meteorologists from the Bureau of Meteorology have warned the cold winter mornings will be back in force around the region this week, with the mercury predicted to plummet tonight.
BOM meteorologist Aditi Sharan said Mackay will begin feeling the cold weather today as temperatures start to drop slowly before hitting single digit lows tomorrow.
Ms Sharan said the expected change in temperature is due to a shift in wind direction.
"The winds will shift southerly from Monday so that will dry out the air masses,” she said.
As the humidity in the air dries out, Ms Sharan said this will bring much colder temperatures into the region.
Ms Sharan said temperatures on Tuesday morning are set to drop to five degrees in Mackay with even colder mornings expected for those living further inland. Frost is also forecast for inland areas.
