Reunion for Vietnam vets

IT’S a massive weekend for Vietnam veterans with two separate reunions being held in Coffs Harbour.

The 40th anniversary of the return to Australia of the 105th Field Battery, following its second tour of Vietnam, will be marked by more than 100 veterans from all over the country.

The 105 Field Battery has been in all of Australia’s conflicts.

Its members were with the first units into Vietnam and currently members are serving in Afghanistan.

Reunion organiser Trevor Flay said the battery is a front-line unit with members working with forward units (infantry and armour), calling in fire from advanced guns in support of those units when contact is engaged.

“There have been many military awards won by our members including the VC,” Mr Flay said.

Veterans of the 2 Field Ambulance are also gathering in Coffs Harbour this weekend to mark 44 years since they went to Vietnam to establish the first medical facilities for Australian troops.
