Coffs tops in netball
YOUNG netballers from Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga associations are on top of the world after success at the State Age Championships.
Coffs won the division three under-15 title from Westlakes while Woolgoolga finished runners-up to Brunswick-Byron in division four under-13s.
Media officer Lauryn Nicholls said Coffs Harbour fielded teams in all four age divisions and took an army of coaches, managers, parents and families to Sydney.
The winning under-15 squad was captained by Gabby White and made up of Claudia Charles (vice captain), Hannah Archibald, Holly Dummer, Gabriella Dunn, Teha Kalekale, Katlin Leaney, Clare Pemberton and Sophie Cameron.
Linda Pike was coach, assisted by Maddi McLaughlin, with team manager Sonya McLaughlin.
After 15 games, Coffs and Westlakes tied on points and a countback gave our girls the number one spot.
"This win, along with the recent under-17 NSW championship, reinforces Coffs Harbour on the map for junior netball," Lauryn said.
"Our representative teams put in a lot of training over the season to be competitive at these championships and to come home with wins is just incredible.
"Our Coaches work tirelessly to support our girls and the return is simply watching them all enjoy the game we love.
"The experience gained by the more junior teams will be irreplaceable and get them even more prepared for the years to come.
"We are proud of each and every one of our girls and the efforts they all put in this year.
"Netball is a great sport for all girls to play no matter what their abilities are as they can make lifetime friends."
