Coffs told to get 'On Ya Bike'
THE time to get 'On Ya Bike' is fast approaching.
Coffs Harbour City Council is encouraging everybody to leave the car at home on Wednesday, September 19 and get pedalling to be a part of Coffs Harbour's very own 'On Ya Bike Day'.
Council's Road Safety and Transport Officer, Anne Shearer, is hoping this year's day will prove to be a bigger success than the 2011 event.
"Last year's 'On Ya Bike Day' was the best yet with more than 200 people riding in for the free breakfast and entertainment we put on in City Square," Ms Shearer said.
"The day has grown over the years into a really popular event for people of all ages and we expect 2012 to be no exception."
While the aim of the event is to encourage more and more people to think about using their bikes on an everyday basis for commuting, meeting friends, shopping and simply having fun, Ms Shearer added there's always one great motivating factor for cyclists on the day to participate.
"The centrepiece of the morning is - as always - the FREE, healthy breakfast that Council puts on for anyone who cycles in to enjoy," she said.
"Again this year we'll be offering a range of yogurts, home-made muesli and granola, fresh fruit, egg rolls and fruit juice."
There'll be more than a free feed to encourage riders to make their way to the city centre though.
A number of local gyms are also happy to return to run spin classes, health checks and other activities to get people moving. The expert stylists from Mullet Hair will also be there offering their 'helmet hair' rescue service, plus we'll be offering prize draws.
Riders coming from south of the city can also be part of the escorted ride from Centro Toormina for people who want a bit of company on the journey.
