Coffs takes advantage of fee free education

COFFS Harbour residents are leading the state in taking up the NSW government's fee free vocational education and training offer.

Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser said more than 500 residents have taken up the chance to get fee free vocational training on the mid north coast.

"More people getting vocational qualifications in the Coffs Harbour electorate will not only help set people up for a job, but will also build the skills base of the region and drive economic growth, Mr Fraser said.

The NSW government is offering 200,000 fee-free scholarships over four years to concession-eligible people aged 15-30 years old, with priority given to people living in or on the waiting list for social housing.

Scholarships are available for hundreds of certificate I-IV courses on the NSW Skills List - a list made up of industry-approved courses that meet areas of skills needs and are likely to lead to a job.

"There are over 200 training providers on the mid north coast region, so I would encourage more students to look at getting the skills training to help start a rewarding career," Mr Fraser added.
