Northern Coast beaten twice

HOST region Northern Coast went down narrowly in both opening matches at the AFL under-18 Joss State Zone trials being held at BCU International Stadium.

First opponent Riverina was too classy, winning 8.5.53 to Northern’s 2.2.14.

Thomas Head and Jack Pratt kicked the goals and Head was the only man to goal in the match won by Sydney North 4.2.26 to 1.3.9.

Each representative squad played two matches and other first-day winners were Sydney North and Riverina (both unbeaten) and Murray.

Despite the home side’s disappointment, an enthusiastic crowd was treated to high-quality football as the State and territory’s top players came together.

Sydney Swans legend Paul Roos was an interested onlooker as play got under way.

Yesterday, GWS Giants’ boss Kevin Sheedy and dual premiership-winning Geelong captain Tom Harley got down on the grass at Coffs Coast Sports and Leisure Park to conduct a skills coaching session.

Northern Coast was then due to play Sydney South and Murray.

Players will have an off today.

The tournament wraps up tomorrow.
