Show of support for sand-modellers

WHETHER you want to get sandy or just admire the spadework of others, the Festival of Sail sand modelling competition is a family affair for artists and supervisors alike.

This was the case for the local winner of the open section Julie Nash who carved up her ‘Beached Diver’ as daughter, Georgia, and her friends, Zoe and Alex, watched on.

“I’m here supervising and giving moral support. We came two years ago and mum made a can of sardines and I just watched,” Georgia said.

Second in the ‘opens’ was Tiffiny Wood, Alex Frail and Claire Cook with ‘The Giraffe’.

These girls are no novices having made a giant panther, dragon, log and hippopotamus in past years.

The giraffe also tied for first in the People’s Choice Award.
