Coffs Rugby blitz the Gaolers
THERE were some hiccups at the start but Coffs Rugby have started the season in scorching fashion with a 56-0 victory over South West Rocks.
Captain Paul Butcher said the plucky Gaolers offered stern resistance in the early stages and his men had to pull out all stops in the second half.
"The Rocks look like they've picked up some handy players and worked hard to hold us to 14-0 at the break," he said.
"In the end our fitness was the edge factor and while we dropped a lot of ball towards the end the benefit of those three trials showed through."
Prop James Bellamy continued his upward spiral with another fine performance while scoring machine Kris Kent made an immediate impact in the bid to become the season's leading points provider.
When told the news that University had pushed Vikings to the brink in a stunning competition entry, Butcher said the zone was going to benefit greatly.
"To go so close against a good side like Hastings is an awesome effort," he said.
"It's brilliant for rugby in Coffs Harbour and I hope their momentum keeps building for when we face them next month."
