PLAYING more than 10 games of netball in the space of a week left Coffs Harbour’s netball team at the 2010 Pan Pacific Masters Games tired but satisfied.
As a reward for its hard work on the court the team, Coffs Rox, walked away from the Gold Coast with a silver medal.
The reward for the fun and entertainment off the court is a treasure trove of memories and a number of players already putting their hand up for the next time the Pan Pacific Games come around.
The team competed in the over-35 section and breezed through the rounds with a 9-1 win-loss record.
Team coach Karen Mills who also acted as a player was pleased with the efforts of Kiri Anaru, Vicki Corogan, Trish Kenney, Melisa Dummer, Leanne McComas, Leanne James, Karen Stocks, Kelly Smith and Lauryn Nicholls who all chipped in when needed.
In the gold medal match the Coffs team managed to win two of the four quarters to give itself a good shot at taking the gold but were beaten 25-18.
The girls were awarded with silver medals and Leanne McComas was given the added award of being named as the best player in the final.
The next step for a lot of the netballers from the Coffs Harbour Netball Association is to start working towards the State championships being held in July.
The association is taking seven teams to the State titles including an over-35s team for the first time. This team will include six players from the squad who won silver at the Gold Coast.
