Comets ring changes before Rebels encounter
SKIPPER Andrew Smith will be absent when Coffs Harbour takes on South Grafton at Geoff King Motors Park tomorrow.
Smith is on representative duty with NSW Country, allowing coach Colin Speed to make some cosmetic tinkering with the team.
"Daniel Slater will wear the six jumper, allowing Scott Street to move back to fullback where he's indicated he likes it better," Speed said.
"Dennis Gordon is still recovering from concussion, so Peter Irwin remains in the centres where he went so well (with three tries) against Bellingen.
"This young bloke is a really good footballer.
"When we lost Dennis, Peter asked if I needed a volunteer to move a bit wider and I couldn't be happier with how he's handled it."
Speed isn't even contemplating another scare like the one received on May 10 when the Comets went up against the Rebels mentally unprepared and almost came unstuck.
"We are very keen for the day," he said.
In other matches, Sawtell and Grafton should claim the points by comfortable margins. It will be trickier in the southern game at Allen Gillett Oval where the loser between the Sea Eagles and Seahorses could be headed for the sudden-death position when the semis arrive in two weeks.
Meanwhile, another 'State Of Origin' match takes place at 2pm today at Geoff King Motors Oval with NSW hosting Queensland in the annual interstate clash of university representative teams.
