Coffs cancer service donate $20k

THIS spirited bunch had every reason to cheer when they caught up in Coffs Harbour yesterday.

Coffs Harbour Regional Cancer Services donated $20,000 to Nambucca Valley Cancer Support to help with much-needed expansion.

“We're constantly raising money to help cancer sufferers and their carers,” said Dave Bone from Coffs Harbour Regional Cancer Services.

“We raise the money in the region and the money stays in the region.

“Two years ago the people from Nambucca helped us on furnishing our two self-contained lodges at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus.”

The Nambucca Valley Cancer Support Group was formed in 1991 to support and educate patients and carers affected by cancer.

The following year a fundraising group was formed to buy equipment for cancer and palliative care patients but the group has now outgrown its current facilities.

A purpose-built centre is now their goal.

The North Coast Area Health Service has given them land in the grounds of the Macksville Health Campus for the Nambucca Valley Cancer Resource Centre.

It is designed to be a one-stop shop for cancer support services and a place for the community to access information.
