Coffs Masters in the pool

THE Coffs Harbour Masters swimming team of 12 won 29 individual medals and two relay medals at the recent Pan Pacific Masters Games, held on the Gold Coast. Competition was fierce for the three-day event with competitors from Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, UK and the USA, which makes the club's medal tally even more impressive.

The Coffs team was the largest from NSW and the fifth largest out of 74 clubs.

Unprecedented growth this year, with the assistance of the local newspaper, has seen the club almost double in size to 23 members.

Individual winners were: Daniel Bannerman 8 gold; Jamie Marschke 2 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze; Richie Goddard 8 silver; Amanda Mordue 1 silver, 2 bronze; and Rose Jeff 4 bronze.

A silver medal went to the men's 4x50 160+ medley relay team of Richie Goddard, Jamie Marschke, Daniel Bannerman and Grant Da Costa who missed the Games record by a mere 0.8 seconds.

A bronze went to the men's 4x50 160+ freestyle relay team of Brad Arnold, Michael Stubbs, Richie Goddard and Jamie Marschke.

Richie Goddard and Jamie Marschke also competed in the 2.5k open swim in very tough conditions, both winning gold in their age groups.

Why not join in the fun, we swim SaturdayS from 3pm at the Coffs Aquatic Centre, 50 Park Beach Rd or phone Leanne 0429995595.
