Coffs junior teams shine at carnival

IT WAS a sunny weekend in Port Macquarie for Coffs Harbour basketball, with five out of 13 Coffs Harbour Suns junior teams making the finals in their divisions at an annual social carnival.

The teams consisted of players hopeful of making the 2015 rep teams, with the under-11 boys and girls, U15 boys, and U17 boys and girls making the finals in their divisions.

Coffs Harbour Basketball Association general manager Steve Smith said that while participation was never about the winning, it was great to see the teams starting to click this early in preparation for the 2015 season.

"Our rep coaches would have enjoyed the chance to see their players under game conditions and also against unfamiliar opponents, and I am sure this will assist them in finalising their team line-ups for next year," he said.

Congratulations to the U15 boys and the U17 girls, who won their finals.

The next event on the calendar for the Suns teams is Coffs Harbour's own 3-on-3 event at Sports Central on Saturday, November 8.

This will be a change of pace from the five-a-side version of the game - there is no place to hide in the 3-on-3 game.

Coaches will be able to see all players under dribbling and shooting pressure in games which are fast and furious and only last for 10 minutes.

An announcement of 2015 CHBA junior rep teams will be made soon.
