Local rugby stalwart in ICU after car accident

COFFS Harbour Rugby Club physio Garry Heskett is in hospital following a serious traffic incident yesterday.

He was to have attended the club's 40-year reunion on the weekend after being in charge of organising shirts and merchandising but answered the call to help out the kids as a first aid officer for the NSW Country Rugby Schools Championships held on the New England.

The Coffs Rugby Facebook page has posted information that Garry is in Armidale ICU with a fractured clavicle, fractured scapula and numerous broken ribs.

Wife Suzanne is by his side and expects it will be several days before he is released.

Tim Horan was first on the scene and delivered first aid under the direction of Coffs Junior Rugby chief Angus Smyth.
