District XI

LAST season’s grand final opponents dominate selections for the Coffs Harbour District XI facing Manning River in round three of the SCG Country Cup next Sunday.

Premier side Park Beach Bowling Club Colts will be represented by three players in the 14-man squad, topped only by Diggers Ex-Services with four including captain Glen Kesby.

The Diggers’ all-rounder was given his opportunity in the top job following the unavailability of leading candidates Daryl Parmenter and Rob Eddy, and the injury sustained by Dorrigo skipper Justin Gilbert. The match will be played on home soil at Fitzroy Oval commencing at 10am with the starting line-up announced at the ground.

Selectors have an eye on the future after going for an explosion of youth in the team.

One of the notable inclusions is Northern Districts’ Taj Dosanjh who has the rare distinction of being picked from a lower grade side after heading back from Sawtell in the off-season.

But there’s a catch, as the young all-rounder would be a certain A-grader if his club had the numbers.

Also, round three of the VB Country Plate will also feature a CHDCA-supported side.

Bellinger Valley, comprising young players selected from the Bellingen and Urunga clubs, will play against Dungog at Rowe Oval, Dorrigo, with the match scheduled to commence at 9am.
