RACING begins today at Lismore for one of the new Sky 2 Race Days.
The six-race card carries prizemoney of $5000 per race and 11 horses from Coffs Harbour will be running.
Gordon Yorke and Belinda Hodder will team up with several rides, Beachland and Cashel Gemstone in the two 1000m Maiden Plates and Emperor Theodesus in the Class one Hcp over 1516m.
The 1000m Maiden Plate will also feature Brett Bellamy’s Rev the Chev and At Speed, Joe Janiak’s Shrewd Target and Peter Goodenough’s You Know. Brett also has Cobbley in the Class 1 and Figure in the Benchmark 45 1200m Hcp. Basil Ryan sends out Testella in the 1516m Class 1, while Paul Smith rounds out the day with Dancehall Romeo in the Benchmark 40 Hcp over 1400m.
It’s a day at home on Sunday and then into another busy week.
Jim Jarvis heads to Quirindi on Monday with Tamaashot in the Benchmark 50 Hcp over 1000m and Passed in Twice in the 1000m Benchmark 65 Hcp. Then on Tuesday eight local trainers will head up to Ballina with 20 horses between them.
In other news around the club, it is an anxious time for the Yorke stable in the next week as champion Nuclear Medicine undergoes scans to see if a freak accident will end his career.
“The horse has stepped on an old nail, which he has driven right through to the bone and his future is certainly under a cloud,” Yorke said.
Yorke will also head down to Sydney for a meeting with Racing NSW during the week as part of the review of the Benchmarking system. Gordon will be representing the views of Northern Rivers Trainers.
The next meetings in the Northern Rivers will be at Grafton on Monday, May 10.
