Tippett wins top EMSLA prize

THE Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA) is fast becoming one of Coffs Harbour’s most popular, not to mention, glamorous social events.

Close to 300 people packed into the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery on Friday night to hear well-known art critic, EMSLA award judge and gallery patron John McDonald announce the 2010 prize winners.

Winner of the increasingly prestigious $15,000 award was Sydney artist Pam Tippett for her elegant work, ‘Onions in enamel bowl’.

Gallery director Leigh Summers described the piece as a “charming work that would fit beautifully into the gallery’s permanent collection”.

“It’s a real treasure and we are thrilled to have acquired it,” Ms Summers said.

She said this year the field of entries included more than 250 works from all over Australia.

“This is our own Coffs Harbour Gallery national art prize and once again it attracted a very substantial field of high quality work.”
