Coffs doorknock scam

SCAMMERS are taking Coffs Harbour residents for a ride, doorknocking and collecting cash for a fraudalent fundraising campaign.

The Westpac Life Saver Helicopter Service has made a public appeal to Coffs Harbour residents not to give funds to the phony collectors and report their movements throughout the city.

Westpac Life Saver Helicopter fundraising manager Zeke Huish warned local residents to be wary of people saying they are door knocking on behalf of the helicopter service.

"The service has had reports that there are people door knocking for the helicopter in the Coffs area," Zeke said.

"We want to make it clear that we do not conduct door knocking and these people are not sanctioned by our service.

"If you are approached by people saying they are from the helicopter please report this to us.

"If people are unsure of the legitimacy of someone seeking a donation, we recommend that people always ask for identification or a receipt before making any donation."

If you are approached by doorknockers claiming to be on behalf of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter please report it to the helicopter service on 6627 4444.
