Green grants up for grabs

LOCAL organisations interested in improving the local environment are being encouraged to apply for Coffs Harbour City Council environmental levy funding.

Currently, more than $1 million in funding is available in 2011/2012 for projects that generate community benefit, meet a critical environmental need or protect and enhance the natural environment.

This year a wide range of groups benefited from the funding.

They have included the Jetty Dunecare Group for weeds eradication on the Jetty Foreshores; Orara River Restoration Project for weed eradication, erosion control and revegetation of the river system; Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare to help support the group's work in rehabilitating degraded natural ecosystems; the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk project; and the Green Schools Sustainability Fund. Application forms are available from the customer service counter at council's administrative centre and libraries at Coffs Harbour, Toormina and Woolgoolga or at www.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au.

Submissions will be accepted up until 5pm Wednesday, December 15, 2010. For more details phone 6648 4285.
