Australian Surf Festival to make its mark
COFFS Harbour will play host to the country's biggest gathering of surfers when the Australian Surf Festival takes off from July 31 to August 17.
More than 500 surfers will contest the two-week surfing showpiece.
National titles will be decided in open surf masters, longboard, logger and bodyboard divisions.
"I'm really looking forward to the Australian Surf Festival coming to Coffs Harbour," Coffs Harbour Mayor Cr Denise Knight said.
"It will really bring our local beaches to life and it's another great way for the Coffs Coast to showcase itself to the hundreds of competitors and their supporters who will be here from all over Australia."
Coffs Harbour's own former World Championship tour surfer Lee Winkler shared the mayor's sentiments, saying he's looking forward to seeing talented boardriders compete for a prestigious Australian Title.
"The Australian Title has and always will be the benchmark of grassroots surfing competition and something that is fiercely contested.
"I look forward to some of Australia's best fighting for their chance to earn a coveted title," Lee said.
Coffs Harbour is home to a number of great beach break options that work in a variety of wind and swell conditions.
The main base for the event will be Park Beach, but the event is fully mobile with numerous beach break options also including Macauley's, Diggers, the Jetty, Gallows, Arrawarra, Mullaway, Woolgoolga, Emerald Beach and Sapphire.
A hotline - 0458 247 212 - will be operating for the festival which will feature a recorded message updated at 6.45am each morning with the confirmed daily schedule and contest venue.
