Coffs Coast given a “heads up” with flood watch warning

FORECASTS of heavy rain for the rest of the week have the Coffs Coast on flood watch.

Even before Coffs Harbour received two inches of rain in only hours yesterday, the Bureau of Meteorology issued a statement which it said was a "heads up" for possible future flooding and definitely wasn't an official flood warning.

Coming on the back of the serious flooding experienced only three weeks ago, it's a reason to be concerned but not alarmed.

Rainfall rates are forecast to increase tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, when there is a 75% chance of flooding developing in the Bellinger and Nambucca River valleys.

A watch has also been issued for the city of Coffs Harbour itself, where minor to moderate flooding could occur.

People living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

Flood warnings will be issued if minor flood level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers.

COFFS HARBOUR FORECAST

  • Thursday - Showers increasing. Heavy falls possible.
  • Friday - Heavy rain and the chance of a thunderstorm.
  • Saturday - Heavy rain, easing to a few showers by early evening.
