Coffee brews up idea for Coffs business
A LATTE later and local policeman Jason Breton and real estate guru Peter Darby were on to a winner.
The dynamic duo that was to become North Coast Seachange Pty Ltd had met for a coffee and come up with an innovative business idea - a real estate website that harnessed the 'seachange' trend and presented our region nationally and globally as an ideal location to live and invest.
That idea was broached back in March 2006, and two years later Jason and Peter had a successful, growing business - and the recognition of peers, after being named Best New Business at September's Sunny's Awards.
This should come as no surprise, however, considering that within the first four months of operation the website received more than 1 million hits.
The vision for the business was to allow a family in any location around the world to visit one website that would provide them with all the tools they needed to make the ultimate North Coast seachange.
Individuals and real estate agents were presented with the opportunity to market properties outside the standard real estate avenues.
Jason and Peter soon found that a lot of their clients were interested in project development.
The need for a shopfront became evident, so the North Coast Project Sales office was set up in Orlando Street.
Plans were put in place to offer landholders a service to take them through subdivision from scratch to completion and then sell the land.
Opportunities to buy shares in such ventures were developed.
And there are still more exciting developments on the way.
Jason and Peter are looking at setting up North Coast Acquisitions, where groups of 20 local families invest $50,000 each and buy $1 million in property on the North Coast, which is then managed by the company.
