Coastal patrol to the rescue
COFFS Harbour Volunteer Coastal Patrol's rescue boat was called on to help move a racing yacht back into its marina pen on Monday afternoon.
Rope had tangled around the boat's rudder, causing it to lose steerage. The yacht drifted into a fishing boat, where it was tied up until the RVCP team came to help move it back to berth so a diver could go down to deal with the rope. Monday morning's Solitary Islands race concluded the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Festival of Sail.
RVCP Divisional Commander Linda Jones said at least two-thirds of the boats taking part in the race had stayed for Monday's event, with most leaving on Tuesday and Wednesday for various ports, including Brisbane, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Sydney and even in one case, Lord Howe Island.
