TENNIS: A selection of youngsters from the Sunshine Coast are preparing to be part of the 2017 Suncorp Ballkids squad at January's Brisbane International.

Isabella Tomkins, Sarah Wrigley, Meika Wood, Bailey Collins, Jack Mellish and Jamie Kenney will take part in the event.

The 12 to 17 year olds will share the court with some of the greatest names in tennis, like Rafael Nadal, Stan Warwinka, Angelique Kerber, Garbine Muguruza, Svetlana Kusnetsova and Australian Sam Stosur.

Jamie is set to return to the event for the third time.

"I am really excited to work with new people that I have become friends with through Brisbane International ball-kids, it's such a great community," he said in an event press release.

Hinterland youngster Jack is looking forward to being near a Spanish superstar in particular.

"The player I am most excited to see is definitely Rafael Nadal," he said.

"He has been my favourite since I began watching tennis and it is a dream come true for him to play the Brisbane International."

The Sunshine Coast contingent will be among 120 juniors to travel from around Australia to be a part of the week-long event.

"This is the best squad we've ever had," ballkid program supervisor Steve Robson said.

"It's great to have ballkids coming from all over Australia to the prestigious Brisbane International. We're looking forward to a great event with the world's best players in 2017."

The event will also include Australians Bernard Tomic and John Millman.

The Brisbane International is a significant lead-up event to the Australian Open.
