Coast horse Yankee Rose to miss autumn racing

RACING: It's been revealed boom Sunshine Coast filly Yankee Rose has a chip in her left knee, sustained during the $1million Crown Oaks at Flemington on Thursday.

The David Vandyke-trained steed went into the Group 1 feature for three-year-olds as a heavy favourite after a third placing in the prestigious Cox Plate.

But she faltered badly in the 2500m outing to finish almost 21 lengths behind roughie Lasqueti Spirit.

Vandyke immediately expressed some concern, saying "there's got to be something wrong”.

A full exam on Friday confirmed his suspicions.

The chip will be removed next week but the future is now clouded for the $10,000 buy which has won two Group 1s and amassed more than $2.1million in prize-money.

Prior to the Oaks, she was the favourite for next year's Melbourne Cup.

"We're unsure (of her future) at this stage but she'll certainly miss the Autumn,” Vandyke said.

"It is what it is. If she never raced again she's had an amazing racing life and we'll just see what happens next year.”

Yankee Rose has won four of nine starts, being unplaced twice.
